Default Credit Cards: PayPal or not?

When setting up an e-commerce website, I see two major option for accepting credit-cards. First, you can use PayPal. Secondly, you can use a merchant account. (Granted, you can also use both.)

Assuming you only plan on using one, which would you choose?

I prefer PayPal, because then customers can use either a credit-card or a personal PayPal account. Additionally, I feel that more customers would trust PayPal with their credit-card numbers than some obscure impersonal webmaster. The drawbacks of PayPal is the fees, which I believe are significantly higher than most credit-card processors.

What are your thoughts on accepting credit-cards with these two options?

Merchant like 2checkout is also an option better go to this merchant. is there also a choice to make this two available? I think this is way better than only one at least your customer can choose.

Paypal is also a merchant. There are lots of merchants on the market. Like 2checkout, worldpay, inet solution, paypal, alertpay. So it depends on your business that which payment processor will help you on making the transaction easier. It is always better accepting lots of merchants. It makes your service more reliable in the eyes of users.

Regards

I would have to go with paypal because like you said people just trust it much more and it is a lot easir to manage everything. The fees get a bit annoying but they are not that bad.

It depends over your targeted users, If you have a lot of customers who can't use paypal because of country limits. then you should use some other payment processors which are avaliable world wide.

that means having different payment processor on a certain business online is a good thing right? but be sure that before using one, investigate first otherwise, you will just end up loosing everything.

Which ones are world wide because right now I dont know of any unless Escrow is world wide. But like you said it is all who you are going for and for me I would be going to the USA and England where paypal is allowed.

Alertpay, xoom ( if you are considering it one). Alertpay is accepting a credit card transaction also.

The only problem with accepting Credit Cards is chargeback.

Though it hasn't happened to me yet, unfortunately with PayPal, from most of the reports I have seen if you receive a chargeback, you end up losing your money, and also have to pay chargeback fees!

And this I guess is true with most payment processors.

I haven't used it but Precharge does seem to me to be a bit different in this respect.
