Default DMOZ is Corrupted

By now I'm sure you guys have heard that Shoemoney was blackmailed by a DMOZ editor. The editor told Shoemoney to give him $5k or his site was removed. Shoe didn't think anything of it but a while after, he got another email from the editor that said his site was removed. Shoe checked and it indeed was removed!

There's also a site that tells you how to bribe a DMOZ editor: Corrupt DMOZ Editor: How to Bribe a DMOZ Editor

Just don't bother submitting to them already. It's impossible to get in unless you bribe them. Even though your site belongs in there and already is in there, you'll eventually get an email asking for money to keep your site listed.

DMOZ is just pathetic...

Google relies so much on DMOZ and have them on a pedestal but by now, everyone knows how corrupt DMOZ is.
Should they just be buried and over with already?

Wow that actually happened to shoemoney? I really considered dmoz a great business company and had high respect for them. I thought I never got in because none of my sites were worthy but I guess it's just because they're a bunch of money-chasing hogs. :(

Wow, that's pretty rude. I wouldn't pay 5k to anyone to have my site back. :S
Are they doing anything to get the blackmailer caught?

Cool Re: DMOZ is Corrupted

I beg to differ. After months of frustration my website submission has finally been approved by the DMOZ editorial team and has been put in the respective category. It took 8 months to get the nod ,since it was a free subscription.I had already given up hope and when I asked members from various forums they came up with 2 options a)DMOZ is no longer important and 2)Bribe the editor.Well I didn't believe the first and neither did I try the second one.So people who still have their website waiting for approval in the cue don't get dis heartened just submit it to the most relevant category .Incase your website has 10 keywords and you optimize your website properly for all of them, then try submitting it to the category that has the minimum amount of approvals pending. That will surely help.I did that and was successful.

I didn't say they wouldn't accept it at all. They do take a long time to accept submissions. One thing I did mention is how an already accepted website was taken down and an email to the owner of the site was sent out asking for money to put it back up.

Being a dmoz editor is a privelege and yet they still abuse it. Kinda sad if you ask me.

Dmoz seems to be an asset people respect if you sell your site. If you say it is dmoz listed the site thread will get at least another 100 views.
